Betrayal, inferiority, emotional suppression, feeling threatened, and an unwillingness to let go of the past can be physically reflected in the form of excessive tissue fluids.

Edema, traumatic and inflammatory swelling, and blockages within the lymphatic system are associated with defensive emotional reactions, perceptions of lack, and the immense fear of change. 

You can gain further insight be determining which areas of the body are affected. Lower limbs often indicate an unwillingness to let go, move on, and accept change. Your shoulders and arms generally suggest that you are failing to delegate, request assistance, or consider other options. Finger, wrist, and hand issues often suggest that you are failing to look beyond your current perception, try new strategies, or let go of old beliefs.

Regular sleep deprivation not only affects your mood and concentration but also leads to long-term health concerns such as diabetes and heart disease. Perhaps you are over-sleeping and your body is becoming accustomed to too much sleep. Either way, it is affecting your day-to-day living.

The human body is incredibly receptive to emotions.

You can learn a great deal about your emotional state by paying attention to your physical body. Carrying unprocessed emotions, negative self-concepts, grief, regret, shame, and fear can reflect as stress and tension within the body. Left unresolved, emotions can manifest into more severe health conditions.

Prolonged emotional trauma puts your body’s defense mechanisms and stress receptors on high alert. The longer your body is reacting defensively in this state, the easier it is for diseases to thrive. Avoid denying, masking, censoring, or repressing your emotions. Identify them, define how they make you feel, and then work towards accepting them.

Your destructive self-concepts are becoming physically debilitating.

Self-hate, inner conflict, invalidation of your emotions, destructive thought patterns, and feelings of inadequacy, worthlessness, and self-blame can be physically reflected in the form of autoimmune diseases. Essentially, your immune system begins to attack your own body, mirroring your internalized self-abasing behavior.

Your habitual self-loathing stems from your unrealistic expectations, high standards, and outdated ideologies. Guilt and shame from feeling the way you do will also continue to reinforce your oppressive mindset. Contemplate which aspects of your self fall short of your expectations. In what way are you emotionally attacking your self? Reprogram how you perceive yourself and your place in the world.

Enthusiastically you seek change, but a lack of discipline prevents you from maintaining your wellness plan.

Motivation is short lived because you become distracted and lose sight of your long-term goal. Find ways to reinforce new behaviors for 30 days and they will become habitual and part of your daily schedule.

If you do break your schedule don’t reset your progress. Instead of aiming to start again tomorrow or next week, start now. See it as a temporary pause and not as a setback or failure. Consider using a habit tracker, or better still an accountability partner who can help you stay on track.

The fear of external judgment is limiting your life experiences.

You worry that people will see your inadequacies and think less of you. Because of this you withdraw and isolate yourself from the world to avoid uncomfortable experiences and opportunities for rejection.

A lack of confidence is fueling your anxiety and adding further weight to your mental health. Your avoidance means you are missing out on wonderful opportunities for growth and advancement. Instead of waiting for acceptance externally, find it within. Once you find your value, you will see it reflected in your experiences, relationships, and health.
